Today, every dog and cat receives Veterinary Exam, Heartworm Test, Feline Leukemia/FIV Test, Flea Treatment, Rabies Vaccine & Routine Shots and are Microchip and Spayed/Neutered before being adopted. Eventually, participating veterinarians offered to the shelter, a discount for each dog and cat to be spayed or neutered. ![]() After her death in 1983, this responsibility fell back onto the shelter. One-time Board member Mary Jane Zahniser undertook payment to spay and neuter all dogs and cats. With help from concerned citizens and some government loans, the shelter was completed. ![]() In 1960, this dedicated group decided it was impractical and impossible to keep all the animals in their homes, and Strayhaven Animal Shelter was built and incorporated.Ī retired gentleman by the name of Perry Dehart, donated the land and his time to build the shelter. In the early fifties, there was no Strayhaven Animal Shelter, only a group of caring people, who rescued strays, keeping them in their homes until the dogs and cats could find a loving home.
